Scene Title: Ally or Rival?
[Inside a law firm’s office. The candidate sits across from the senior partner. Tension rises.]Partner: At our firm, we only hire male lawyers to handle litigation in court.
Candidate: But the posting said gender wasn’t a requirement.
Partner: We just put it that way – you know, Labor Code rules. Everyone in the field understands. You’re not supposed to post gender preferences openly.
Candidate: I see. Then tell me – why just men? Women with a license, expertise, experience, and stamina can do the job as well?
Partner: Litigation is tough, brutal, demanding. Women with families, children…they don’t last.
Candidate: So basically… you are discriminating. Sexist, plain and simple.
Partner: That’s not what I meant. We just need men.
Candidate (leaning forward, eyes locked): Fine. No need to waste more of my time. I may be a woman, but I’ve got the grit and the guts of a man you’re looking for. It still wouldn’t matter to you, would it? But remember this – today, by not hiring me, you’re making a mistake.
[Silence. The partner shifts uncomfortably.]Candidate (cold, steady): Did you hear that loud and clear? If I’m not on your litigation team, one day you’ll face me in court as the lawyer standing with your opponent.
[Beat.]Candidate: So…ally or rival? Your choice.
