Article 14 of the Law on Road Traffic 2008 stipulates Overtaking as follows:
-
A vehicle requesting to overtake must give a signal using lights or horns; in urban areas and densely populated areas, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., overtaking signals shall only be given using lights.
-
A vehicle may only overtake when there is no obstacle ahead, no oncoming vehicle within the overtaking section, and the vehicle in front has not signaled to overtake another vehicle and has moved to the right.
-
When another vehicle requests to overtake, if safety conditions permit, the driver of the vehicle in front must slow down, keep close to the right side of the carriageway until the overtaking vehicle has passed, and must not obstruct the overtaking vehicle.
-
Vehicles must overtake on the left, except in the following cases where overtaking on the right is permitted:
a) When the vehicle ahead has signaled to turn left or is turning left;
b) When a tram is running in the middle of the road;
c) When a specialized vehicle is working on the road and it is not possible to overtake on the left. -
Overtaking is prohibited in the following cases:
a) Where the conditions specified in Clause 2 of this Article are not met;
b) On narrow bridges with a single lane;
c) On curves, at the crest of a slope, or at locations with limited visibility;
d) At intersections or level crossings with railways;
đ) When weather or road conditions do not ensure safe overtaking;
e) When priority vehicles are giving priority signals while performing their duties.
